Gene was born at home in Albion, PA. He married Elaine Y. Carr in 1955; they were married until her death in 1996. He married Lois Boyce in 2001; they were married until her death in 2014. Gene started his own auto body repair business in 1963. In the late 1970s, he brought two of his sons, Ty and Jim, into the business. When Gene retired in the mid-1990s, Jim took over the business. Gene continued working on restoring vehicles into his retirement and made many tables for friends and loved ones in his wood shop the rest of his life. Gene loved his family, always helping when called upon. Some words of wisdom from Gene, known well to his family, were “If you don’t have something good to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.” And, some encouraging words were “If you don’t know how to do something, you can always learn.” Great philosophies to live by. Gene enjoyed getting together with friends and family by dropping in to visit frequently and always attending family picnics (where he was sure to sample all the delicious offerings). He enjoyed sports throughout his life: weightlifting, basketball, jogging, football, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, and softball—both fast pitch and slow pitch, never missing a softball game at the Beery Reunion. He also enjoyed the challenges of helping his children with all levels of math homework (he excelled in math, having received the math award upon his high school graduation). Gene lived independently his entire life, only having been in a care facility the last month or so. His children were always proud of their dad and the man he was.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
