Rod Hoesch, a cherished husband, esteemed veteran, and loving father, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Rod's journey began on February 20, 1938, born to the late Steven and Irene (Walton) Hoesch.
Rod's professional odyssey commenced at Avtex in 1957, where he not only built a career but also found his lifelong love, Susan, whom he affectionately called Susie Belle. Their union was a beacon of warmth and companionship, a testament to enduring love. Rod and Sue were married on February 8, 1964.
In 1980, Rod embarked on a new venture, founding Rod Hoesch Construction. Over the span of 25 years, his company flourished under his leadership until his well-deserved retirement in 2005. Rod's legacy as a builder extended beyond brick and mortar; he constructed lasting relationships. Rod's courage and commitment were exemplified during his service in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea. His dedication to his country reflected his unwavering spirit and selflessness.
Beyond his professional and military endeavors, Rod found solace and joy in his hobbies. A true enthusiast of antique Massey Harris tractors, he delighted in restoring these timeless machines to their former glory. His passion for preservation extended to his memberships in organizations such as the French Creek Valley Antique Equipment Club, the Ashtabula Antique Equipment Club, and the Pioneer Steam & Gas Engine Club. He especially enjoyed restoring the "Pink Pacer for Cancer Awareness” tractor alongside his grandson Aidan, a touching tribute to his beloved late wife, whose departure came far too soon.
In his final days, Rod was surrounded by his family and friends. The family would like to give a special note of gratitude extended to Kate Fleischer at Hospice, whose compassion and dedication provided comfort during his journey home.
Left to cherish his memories are two children, Martin (Cindy Kaider) Hoesch and Malinda (Aaron) McKeown, four grandchildren, Hunter, Lucas (Carolann Verrioli), and Aidan Hoesch and Marie McKeown as well as a sister Darlene (Ray) Shaffer and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by four siblings, Philarene Melrose, Carol Graff, Steven Hoesch and Judy Steadman.
A private memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Rod's family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of Crawford County at 766 Liberty Street, Meadville, PA, 16335.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME, 1405 Main St. Conneautville, PA 16406.
