Robert George Knepp, 87, of Springboro passed away quietly March 18, 2024. He was born August 3, 1936, in Sewickley, Pa., the son of Herman Edward Knepp and Sara Mae Varner.
The family moved to the Springboro area in the 1940's, where they had a dairy farm on Shadeland Road. Later, Robert also helped his father with masonry work, building foundations for local houses within the area.
He was in the first graduating class of Conneaut Valley High School in 1955. Shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps. There he earned a sharpshooter medal and later received an honorable discharge as a Private First Class in 1958, then returned to our area.
He met his future wife, Donna Marie Hollister, of Cherry Hill at a local dance. They were wed August 20, 1962. Robert and Donna would later move to a house on Shadeland Road, so close they could still see the family farm. In January 1963 their first-born child, Brian David, was born. In February 1964 their second child, Gregory Michael, arrived.
Robert worked at Hercules, later Richardson, in Conneaut, Ohio, for approximately 20 years. Later, he worked at Molded Fiberglass in Linesville, retiring when he was 70. He proudly donated blood to the American Red Cross during every blood drive for approximately 20 years until medication forbade it.
He was a quiet, gentle man who loved dogs—and also the many cats his son, Gregory, brought home and “adopted” from his mail route. When a feline sat in his chair at home, he'd simply find another place to sit. Every spring he'd admire the blooming tulips he planted years ago where the family once had their swimming pool.
Later in life, he enjoyed watching TV, reading the daily newspaper and visiting relatives for Sunday dinner. A friendly person, in warm weather, he'd sit on the porch of his son's cabin and wave at passing vehicles.
He's survived by his son and household companion, Gregory, who will truly miss seeing him every day and his sisters Ethel Wright and Linda Sziklai, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He's preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Sarah, his wife, Donna in 2015 and his son, Brian in 2021. He's also preceded in death by his brother, Herman, and sisters, Marie and Margaret.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME, 1405 Main St. Conneautville, PA 16406.
