Connie S. Brady, 78, of Meadville PA, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025 after battling a long illness. Up until the end, Connie maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, love of family and friends, undeniable humor, and extreme faith in God. She was known for her enormous heart and the wonderful way that she treated people—inside and outside of her circle. Her greatest joy was spoiling her Chewy, spending time with family and friends, and fostering a loving and open environment for anyone who visited her home.
Born in Indianapolis IN to Edwin G. Smith and Dorthalee Wallace, Connie spent her childhood moving from place to place due to her father’s enlistment in the Air Force. She graduated from Wooster High School in Reno, NV and enrolled at the University of Nevada-Reno where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1968. Once settled and working at St. Mary’s Hospital, she met her soul mate, Dennis J. Brady and they married later that year. The new couple moved east to Union City PA and remained there for several years as they raised their children and she worked at Union City Memorial Hospital. During that time, she attended Edinboro University in the evenings to obtain her Masters of Science degree in Nursing. This opened new opportunities for her in her career, eventually leading to her position as Risk Manager at Meadville Medical Center, where she spent almost 30 years until she retired.
She is survived by her sister, Judy Cunningham; her children—daughter, Michele (Micki) Lee Yonkofski (Michael) and son, retired Navy Master Chief James (Jake) Dennis Brady; her grandchildren Kristin Yonkofski, Jordan Yonkofski, Breanna Vernott-Brady (Alex), Madison (Gabbey) Brady, Raven Harmon (Chaz), Joshua Devera, and Mark Schmerbauch; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her “village” of amazing friends who unselfishly helped to care for her to the very end—Mary Ellen Stimpson, Becky DeBose, Larry Charlton, and Deepak Bisht—and many more friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents and her soul mate and husband, Denny and her daughter-in-law Virginia.
Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM and 5:00 – 7:00 PM at St. Brigid Church, 353 Arch St. Meadville, PA 16335. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM also at the church with burial to follow in St. Brigid Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to a charity of donor’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME, 1405 Main St. Conneautville, PA 16406.
